Development of rice cultivation, processing and marketing in Jowhar and Qorioley districts - End of term report

CEFA has been working in Southern Somalia for many years, particularly in the agricultural sector, focussing on the re-introduction of rice cultivation in partnership with local communities and the EU Somalia Unit based in Nairobi. From 1996 to the present, rice cultivation has been re-estabhshed in Jowhar District, Middle Shabelle through the implementation of three project phases. The purpose of this review is to determine the extent to which the project has reached its objectives at the end of Phase III and to make recommendations for the new Phase IV.

Synthensis of flood warning and control for the Juba and Shabbele rivers

(Extracts from executive summary)This paper is a synthesis of relevant projects in the area of flood early warning and control. It identities opportunities for carrying the work forward in Somalia. Water management in developing countries; Policies and priorities for EU development cooperation

The EC, being the world's fifth largest donor, and co-operating with its member states, has an important comparative advantage to provide vital and sustaining contributions in the water sector. This work, as a step in the process towards the EC Communication of its Water and Development policy, shows the areas where the EC is seeking political commitment for EC and partner governments to be able to adopt a strategy and policy that will guide its further work.
