SWALIM Undertaking a Hydrogeology and Geophysics Survey in Ceel Waaq

SWALIM, in collaboration with a consulting company, is investigating groundwater potential in 10 selected sites in Ceel Waaq district, Gedo Region in Southern Somalia. The investigations involve geophysics and hydrogeology surveys at these sites. The need for this study has been established following a recent review conducted by the WASH cluster in Ceel Waaq and neighbouring Bardere districts which indicated that nearly 30% of boreholes are non-functional. In addition, 54.8% of the residents have no access to water sources  and 71.7% of residents contacted conceded that the water they consumed exposed them to health problems. The results of this study are expected to assist drillers to locate suitable points for new boreholes and identify sustainable groundwater sources with water fit for human consumption.
