Italian Cooperation supports the SWALIM programme

15 November 2018 - The Joint Committee for Development Cooperation, chaired by the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Emanuela Del Re, met today and approved, among other matters, a 3-million-Euro grant to support FAO’s SWALIM programme (Somali Water and Land Information Management), Phase VI in Somalia.

The general objective of the SWALIM programme, which was first launched in  2002, is to promote a sustainable management of the Country’s water resources.  The goal of Phase VI of the programme is to develop alerts and early response mechanisms which can help people to recover from critical situations.

The support granted by the Italian Cooperation service confirms its attention to the Horn of Africa, within the framework of the Sustainable Development Objectives laid down in the 2030 Agenda: “it is a fundamental point of reference in a globalized world that we see is growing all the more interdependent ," said the Deputy Minister.
