The land cover maps and reports is one of the outputs of SWALIM activities. The main focus of this activity is the description of land cover mapping undertaken by SWALIM interpretation unit of the two areas of interest (AOI) in Somaliland and Southern Somalia.

The report includes description of the methodology and the results obtained for the land cover of the northern and southern AOI, with databases verified by field survey.

Effort has also been put into acquiring secondary land cover data for the whole of Somalia. In this regard, the FAO Africover Project Land cover map has been included.

Land Cover North Area of Interest:
This map was published by FAO-SWALIM project in 2006 at scale 1:100000. produced from on-screen visual interpretation of digitally enhanced. LANDSAT ETM images (Bands 432) landsat images from 2000,2001 and 2002 were used. The Land cover classes are based on FAO/UNEP LCCCS classification system field validation of the map was done in May-June 2006. Download Map (PDF, 323KB)

Land Cover South Area of Interest:
This map was published by FAO-SWALIM project in 2007 at scale 1:100000. The map is a result of on-screen, visual interpretation of digitally enhanced images from 2000, 2001 and 2002 . This map was published by FAO-SWALIM project in 2007 at a scale 1:100000. the map is a result of on-screen visual interpretation of digitally enhanced images from 2001. The land cover classes are based on FAO/UNEP LCCS, CLASSIFICATION system field validation of this maps done in April 2007. Land Cover North And South Garowe 1988:
This map was published by FAO-SWALIM project in 2007 at scale. 1:100000. It was produced from supervised automatic image classification of lansat MSS images (bands 432). Landsat MSS Images of 1988 were used. The land cover classes are based on FAO/UNEP LCCS classification system. Download Map (PDF, 295KB)

Landcover North And South Garowe 2001:
This map was published by FAO-SWALIM project in 2007 at scale 1:100000. It was produced from supervised automatic image classification of LANDSAT/TM images (bands 432) Landsat ETM images of 2001 were used. The land cover classes are based on FAO/UNEP LCCC classification system. Field validation of the map was done in April 2007. Download Map (PDF, 267KB)

Herbaceous Biomass Map Of The North Garowee Study Area 2007-09-19:
This map was published by FAO-SWALIM project in 2007 at scale 1:100 000. The delineation of this map was done from Landsat satellite imagery of November 2001.
